Aries Spears is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer from New York City. Spears was a regular on Fox’s sketch comedy series MADtv, appearing in 198 episodes, making him the second longest-serving cast member on the show behind Michael McDonald. In 2011, he released a special called Aries Spears: Hollywood, Look I’m Smiling.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Spears relocated to New York at the age of one or two. His mom is a jazz singer, Doris Spears. At the age of 11, Spears moved to New Jersey and attended elementary school for Arthur M. Judd. He became a 14-year-old comedian, performing stand-up comedy at multiple New York City comedy clubs. At 17 years of age, he was expelled for fighting at North Brunswick Township High School in North Brunswick Township during his freshman year. Spears began to do his own comedy about his hometown.

Spears said his first comedy at the Uptown Comedy Club in Harlem was making impressions, and Spears said he remembered making impressions of James Brown and Jack Nicholson during his first comedy stand up

Spears ‘ first appearance on television was on the Def Comedy Jam of Russell Simmons, followed by Its Showtime at the Apollo (1987). In 1992, he moved to Los Angeles, landed a recurrent role on A Different World (1993) and became a regular at The Comedy Store, The Improv and The Laugh Factory. Crosstown Traffic, Brisco County’s Adventures, Jr. (1993) and Soul Train are other television credits.

At 16, Spears landed a part in the Malcolm X film. Shortly thereafter, in South of Sunset (1993), he was cast in a starring role opposite Glenn Frey. Home of Angels (1994), The Pest (1997), Jerry Maguire in which he performed Teepee, Rod Tidwell’s brother (1996), Out-of-Sync (1995), and The Proud Family (2003).

He entered MADtv’s cast in 1997 during his 3rd season and left in 2005 at the end of his 10th season. During his visit, he developed characters like comedian Belma Buttons (co-host of the fictitious BET show “Reality Check”), Dollar Bill Montgomery (host of a Politically Incorrect urban parody called “Real******** ing Talk with Dollar Bill Montgomery”), James Brown Jr. (co-hostof Cabana Chat), and contentious rapper Emcee Esher. He is well known for his famous impressions, including rappers Jay-Z, LL Cool J, DMX, and Snoop Dogg actors Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Sylvester Stallone, Denzel Washington, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as comedians Eddie Murphy and Paul Mooney.

Spears appeared in Mind of Mencia’s 2nd-season episode, which parodied Jamie Foxx’s part in Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” music video. He also appeared in Horror’s 2006 film Hood. Spears conducted in The Underground television series and voiced Wizard Kelly in The Proud Family’s animated television series.

Spears appeared as Shaquille O’Neal in two episodes of Frank Caliendo’s sketch comedy showing Frank TV.
