Colbie Caillat is an American songwriter, singer, actress, pianist, and guitarist. Through the use of social networking website MySpace, she rose to fame. As time went she signed with the Universal Republic Records. In July 2007, she released her debut album ‘Coco’.

She was born in Malibu, California and raised up in Newbury Park, California. She was born to Ken Caillat her father who is a record producer and Diane Leineke. She also has a sister. As a child, she took piano classes and at the age of 11, she became enthralled with Lauryn Hill’s performance in Sister Act 2. She later met producer Mikal Blue who hired her to sing techno songs that are used in fashion shows. At the age of 19, she began playing acoustic guitar and Mikal helped her record her first song.

On July 10, 2007, she released her debut album, Coco in Asia and Australia and a week later in North AmericaThe album was certified twice platinum by RIAA with 2,000,000 units shipped to the U.S.
Her album’s first single “Bubbly”, was number 2 on pop 100 and number five on the US Billboard hot 100. For 19 weeks it was topped the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and for 14 weeks it topped Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts. On March 7, 2008, she released her third single ” The Little Things” in Germany and in October 2008 it was released in the U.S. “The Little Things” single did not do well in the U.S chart and was her weakest charting singles in the album. It was announced that Caillat would go on an acoustic tour for her new album, The Malibu Sessions on June 14, 2016. The first single from the album “Goldmine” was released on July 22, 2016.

Gone West

In 2008, she formed a band called Gone West together with her boyfriend Justin Young, Jason Reeves a longtime collaborator and Reeves wife Nelly Joy. On October 26, 2018, the band debuted at the  Grand Ole Opry. Gone West later signed with label Grayscale Entertainment.
