Laura Story Biography

Laura Story began her music career in 1996 when she met Shane Williams, from the band Silers Bald, at Columbia International University. Williams asked her to join the band and she became their bass player. Story released four independent albums with the band. When the band was about to sign a deal with Essential Records, Story’s manager suggested she record a solo album.

In 2002, Story left Silers Bald and began working on her first album, Indescribable, which was released independently that same year. In 2004, the title track of her album was recorded by Chris Tomlin in his album, Arriving. The band Avalon also recorded a version of the song for the WOW Worship 2006 album.

Story released her second independent album in 2005, titled There Is Nothing. The album was produced by Ed Cash and Mitch Dane. During that year, she also married Martin Elvington, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to become an associate worship leader at Perimeter Church.

In 2006, Story signed a record contract with INO Records and two years later, released her third album, Great God Who Saves. The album was also produced by Ed Cash. Story released her fourth album, Blessings, in May 2011. Story released her fifth studio album, God of Every Story, on September 30, 2013. In May 2011 Story released her fourth album, Blessings.

Laura Story Husband

Laura married her husband Martin Elvington in 2005. Laura has often said that their marriage moved from the honeymoon straight to the E.R. A few months after they moved to Atlanta for Martin to attend grad school he began experiencing physical symptoms that went undiagnosed for nearly a year.

He would fall asleep in class or be a little forgetful sometimes. At first, he dismissed it all as “studying too hard.” But when the symptoms persisted, Laura and Martin went in for tests and were told that Martin had a brain tumor.

“We felt like we had just picked out our china as newlyweds, and here we were sitting with a neurosurgeon and listening to him explain the risks associated with the complicated surgery Martin needed to survive.”

“There was a time he was on a breathing machine and we weren’t sure he was going to make it. I spent my whole life singing, â ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,’ but until Jesus took me through something where my only option was to trust Him, I didn’t really know that sweetness,” reflects Story. While supporting her husband through surgery, radiation, complications, and intense physical therapy, Story composed new rubber-meets-the-road songs to reaffirm God’s presence in her darkest hours.

Laura Story Children

Laura is a mother to four children; Daughter Josephine Grace Elvington, twin boys Benjamin Cary and Griffin James and Timothy William

On March 20, 2018, she gave birth to her fourth child Timothy William. Two weeks prior to the birth of the child she shared that the family was told by doctors that the baby would be born with a cleft lip and palate. She said that they wouldn’t know more about what complications that might mean until after the baby boy was born.

“As I wait to meet with the doctor to hear more about baby Timothy’s cleft lip and palette, I am reminded of what I read this morning in Psalm 33. If praise befits the upright, worry must befit those who don’t know God or don’t believe that He really is in control. God, give me the faith to choose faith over worry, trusting that my life (and Timothy’s) is held securely in the palm of your hand.”

After his birth Laura said on her social media; “Praising God for no cleft palate!!! #Godanswersprayers.”

Laura Story Twins

Luara gave birth to her twin baby boys in September 2014 after a rough pregnancy. The singer’s labor was induced. Story posted on Facebook; “Introducing Benjamin Cary and Griffin James! Both boys over 6lbs each!! So so grateful for all of your prayers – they carried us thru the day. We are truly blessed!”

In an interview with BreatheCast Story, she said the surprise pregnancy was probably God’s way of getting her attention. “I also understand sometimes God has his way of making us slow down, even when we don’t want to.”
