Leslie was born to Peggy Ann Jordan and has said he had a difficult time growing up Southern Baptist. Leslie and his family later moved to Chattanoga, Tennessee. In an appearance on Today, he described his mother, Peggy Ann, as being supportive and accepting though never truly understanding him. He went further and said that his mother was a very private woman and that she still lives in Chattanooga.
His father was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army and he died in a plane crash when Jordan was eleven
