Nick Faldo Wiki
Nick Faldo, is an English professional golfer who is now mainly an on-air golf analyst. He is renowned for his dedication to the game. He was ranked number one on the Official World Golf Ranking for 97 weeks.
Nick Faldo Biography
He received his education at Sir Frederic Osborne School. At the age of 14, Faldo “was hooked” on golf — he had never “even picked up a golf club” himself, watching Jack Nicklaus play the 1971 Masters on the “fresh color” television of his parent.
His golf prowess was quickly observed in the U.S., where he received a golf scholarship from Houston University. He visited for ten weeks, but he felt his golf match hurt by the diversion of going to college. Faldo then became a professional after leaving college in 1976 and joined the Association of European Professional Golfers. Faldo accomplished immediate European Tour achievements, finishing 8th on the Order of Merit in 1977 and 3rd in 1978; and winning a European Tour event in each of those seasons.
Faldo won the Irish Open of the Carroll for an unprecedented third time in a row in July 1993. Starting his final round four shots behind José María Olazábal, he was able to match over 72 holes with Olazábal in the fourth round of 65. In the first additional hole, Faldo won the sudden death match. Later that month, in the Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club, Faldo was engaged in a memorable duel with rival Greg Norman.
Since the First World War, Faldo has won more major golf championships than any other player on the continent of Europe. Only one European golfer, Harry Vardon, who won seven major championships in a span between 1896 and 1914, has won more than Faldo. Other than Vardon, only one golfer has won more majors than Faldo from outside the United States.
In 1990, he was appointed PGA Tour Player of the Year and in 1989, 1990 and 1992 was named European Tour Player of the Year and won 29 European Tour titles. While his professional tournament wins pale in an amount to that of contemporaries Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, and Bernhard Langer, his achievements ‘ prestige and stature are remarkable, and he has more significant victories than any of them.
