Paul Mooney, best known by his stage name is an American writer, social critic, and television and film actor. He is well known for his appearances on Chappelle’s Show. Moreover, he used to write jokes for legendary comedian Richard Pryor. Before fame he was a ringmaster for the Gatti-Charles Circus, during which time he started writing for Pryor; he wrote for Pryor’s Saturday Night Live appearances and several of his albums.

Prior to becoming a comedian, he was a ringmaster in Gatti-Charles Circus where he developed his writing and telling comedy jokes. And that helped him land his first professional work as a writer for Richard Pryor. Later he wrote for various comedy shows like,’ Saturday Night Live’,’ Sunset Strip’, ‘Bicentennial Nigger’, and Is It Something I Said albums among the others. Furthermore, he wrote for Redd Foxx’s Sanford and Son and Good Times and acted in comedy films like Which Way Is Up?, Bustin’ Loose, Hollywood Shuffle and The Buddy Holly Story.
Later he became a writer for FOX’s sketch comedy, In Living Color and went on to act in Spike Lee film Bamboozled. Furthermore, he gave many stand up comedians such as Robin Williams, Marsha Warfield, Sandra Bernhard, John Witherspoon, and Tim Reid, their first breakthrough from ‘The Richard Pryor Show’.
