Perri Arlette Reid professionally recognized by her former stage name, Pebbles, is an American singer-songwriter, businesswoman, producer, and music executive.
Pebbles is also best known for her hit songs during the late 1980s and early 1990s such as Girlfriend in 1987, Mercedes Boy in 1988 and Giving You the Benefit in 1990. In addition to a recording career, Pebbles created the contemporary R&B group TLC. Reid is currently an Atlanta-based minister, known as Sister Perri.
Pebbles was born Perri Arlette McKissack on August 29, 1964, one of four siblings to two mixed Euro African-American parents. Perri’s parents divorced when she was around six years old. Pebbles and her siblings were raised by their mother on the income of a waitress and housekeeper. As of 2019, Perri Arlette Pebbles
Pebble’s Reid got her start at age sixteen in 1981 as a backing vocalist for the percussionist or bandleader Bill Summers and the funk band Con Funk Shun. Pebble’s co-wrote one of Con Funk Shun’s singles, Body Lovers. At age nineteen, a local musician gave Reid a production deal which fell through several months later when she became pregnant with her daughter.
While working at an Oakland, California, real estate office Pebble’s met contractor George L. Smith. Smith bankrolled Pebbles with $80,000 for a demo tape and video for Mercedes Boy. The demo and video led to a contract with MCA. She recorded several hit singles on her own during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including Girlfriend, Mercedes Boy, Giving You the Benefit, and Love Makes Things Happen. Reid’s cousin is R&B singer Cherrelle who was featured, along with Johnny Gill, on her 1991 hit song, Always.
In July 1989, Pebbles formed the Atlanta-based production company Pebbitone and founded her own record label, Savvy Records. Pebbitone managed TLC, which was signed with LaFace Records, L.A. Reid’s record label. When TLC filed for bankruptcy in 1995, due to Pebbles’ alleged mismanagement regarding their funds, the ensuing conflict damaged Pebbles’ marriage. She divorced Reid, and Pebbitone sued LaFace for $10 million.
In 1997, Pebbles underwent a religious conversion. Under her new stage name Sister Perri, she founded Women of God Changing Lives ‘WOGCL’ Ministries. As an ordained minister, she now preaches and ministers through song.
In 2008, after a thirteen-year music hiatus, Reid released her fourth album and debut gospel album, Prophetic Flows Vol I & II, which peaked at #12 on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart. In February 2011, she was named the executive producer/host of Essence’s national R&B search.

Pebbles was born to Mix Euro African-American Parents. Therefore Pebbles is Biracial or we can also say she is an American recording artist.
Pebbles and L.A Reid
Pebbles Reid has been married five times and has two children. Her second marriage was to Oakland contractor George L. Smith from 1985 until 1987. The relationship began as an affair when Smith’s wife of twenty years Darlene was battling cancer.
After his wife’s passing, Pebbles who was 19-year-old married 41-year-old Smith, and they built their home in San Francisco. Smith had a daughter, Jennifer from his previous marriage.
While married, Pebbles began having an affair with L.A. Reid, which led to her divorce from Smith. In July 1989, Pebbles married Reid. They had one son named Aaron, who was born in 1991. Reid and Pebbles later divorced in 1996.
The couple both blamed TLC for contributing to the failure of their marriage.
“TLC wanted Pebbitone out of their lives and the only way they could get out was to file bankruptcy,” L.A. said during a past interview with New York Magazine.
Reid went on to say, TLC was “one of the breaking points in my marriage.” When radio host Frank Ski asked Pebbles whether or not she regretted bringing TLC to LaFace Records, she responded:
“I would not sign them to LaFace because what happened there, in my opinion, was horrific because you tore my family up with this. This tore my family up. Now my G-code kept me quiet, but it was a whole bunch of dirtiness.” she Expressed.
“How do you take somebody’s money? Even if you think I’m a crook, I don’t have the money bag. Do you really think out of BMG, Arista, Clive Davis…Pebbles has the money bag? We’re at the bottom. Money flows from the top,” she said.
Pebbles and Aaron Reid
There’s nothing a parent loves more than witnessing their child grow and evolve into their own. That’s just what singer, Pebbles, and music honcho, L.A. Reid’s son, Aaron Reid, appeared to be doing in his career.
Aaron Reid who is 28 years old now and some may recall seeing him on VH1’s Sweet Sixteen show in 2005, where his parents lavished him with gifts and threw an expensive birthday party. Some of the most popular rappers at that time performed, Kanye West, Swizz Beats, and Jermaine Dupri. Jay-Z and Puffy were also there.
Well fast forward to today Aaron is determined to build his own name without leaning on his parents’ legacy. He is now flourishing in his careers. He has a few careers. Aaron has been an A&R at Epic Records, the label his Pops runs ever since 2013.
For your information, an A&R gig is one of the most revolving door gigs in the music industry. A&R’s get fired all the time because as soon as they don’t find the next hot artists that the label can successfully make money from, they look for the next A&R who they feel has the eyes and ears to spot the talent.
So Aaron’s 2-year span as an A&R is pretty impressive since regardless of if his dad running the company or not, his dad does not own the label, so Aaron still has to prove that he deserves to be there just like any other artist by bringing the right artists to the table.
